Purpose: To determ ine the usefulness of flexible intram edullary fixation in pediatric forearm diaphyseal fractures.
Materials and methods: W e reviewed 22 cases of forearm diaphyseal fractures treated with flexible intram edullary nail and K-w ire. The radiographic assessm ent was based on the tim e to union, m aintenance of reduction and angular deform ity. The functional outcom e was assessed w ith the range of m otion and com plications at last follow up.
Results: Average length of follow up w as 13.9 m onths w ith m ean age of 10.8 years and the tim e to union was 5.2 weeks. There were no angular deform ity and fuctional results w ere excellent in all cases. There were 5 cases of soft tissue irritation of nail insertion site as post operative com plication which was resolved after nail rem oval.
Conclusion: Flexible intram edullary for pediatric forearm bone fractures is an effective and safe m ethod w hich gives a good functional outcome.
